That really comes as a surprise to me. Robby was just getting stronger with Ford, and if anything, I figured he'd merge with Yates.

2008 Preview
#: 66
Driver: Scott Riggs
Sponsor: State Water Heaters
Make: Chevrolet Impala SS
Team: Haas-CNC Racing
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: The 66 ran well at times in 2007, finishing 31st in owner's points with 3 top tens. Riggs, once again, struggled to perform in 2007, making only 27 races before being canned for Patrick Carpentier at the end of the year. GEM has never really given Riggs the equipment or support that he needed to succeed there, by tunneling efforts away from the 10 and 19, and to the 9, but that's another story that I don't really want to get into. Anyway, as far as Riggs in the 66 in 2008 goes, I think he could have a decent year. He's a talented driver in need of a big break, and he'll outperform Jeff Green, hopefully using the 66 as a stepping stone to a big name gig (Not to take anything away from Haas-CNC, but they have a lot of work to do before that organization can get close to fielding a competitive team). Riggs will score a few top tens, maybe a top five or two, and will finish between 25th and 35th in points, in 2008.

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.

Tomorrow: #70 Jeremy Mayfield

2008 Preview
#: 70
Driver: Jeremy Mayfield
Sponsor: Haas-CNC
Make: Chevrolet Impala SS
Team: Haas-CNC Racing
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: It's hard to believe that in in '04 and '05, Mayfield was one of the top contenders. Oh how the times have changed and how the great have fallen. Mayfield was forced out of a job and good equipment when Evernham decided that Kahne deserved more support than he. In 2007, Mayfield had his worst season ever. He started only 17 races and fished 45th in points, as the second fiddle at Bill Davis Racing. The 70 team, on the other hand, with Johnny Sauter, finished 33rd in points with a top five and two top tens. There is no doubt that Mayfield has talent, he just needs people around him to support him, and at Haas-CNC (Which looks like an "Evernham Screwed Us Over Alumini Meeting", in 2008), I think he may have found a new home. Mayfield will run better than in 2007, he's guaranteed to make the first 5 races, and will keep the car in the top 35 the whole season, collecting a couple top fives and 2-4 top tens along the way. He'll finish between 27th and 35th in points.

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.

Tomorrow: (2/4) #77 Sam Hornish Jr.

Both Haas car somehow stay in the Top-35. I think is Riggs and Mayfield's last chance in the cup series. They better show some results.

2008 Preview
#: 77
Driver: Sam Hornish Jr.
Sponsor: Mobil 1
Make: Dodge Charger
Team: Penske Racing
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: Here's another open-wheel transfer for 2008. Hornish Jr., with Penske, was one of the open-wheelers that most thought would prosper in stock cars, but up until this points, seeing what he has done in N'Wide and Cup, he's got a lot of work to do. The good news for Hornish in 2008, is that he'll make the first 5 races, guaranteed. This will give him valuable seat time and experience. He's a very, very talented driver, and I have no doubt that he'll eventually be competitive, but I do not look for much from Hornish in 2008. Maybe a top ten or two, 3rd in Rookie points, and between 30th and 35th in points.

I think Sam may surprise us. I like Sam, I want him to do well. With Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman by his side me may crack the top-25 in points.

unlike when Brendan Gaughan and Travis Kvapil when they were at Penske. Rusty and Newman weren't getting along and I think it hurt those two.

2008 Preview
#: 78
Driver: Joe Nemecheck
Sponsor: TBD
Make: Chevrolet Impala SS
Team: Furniture Row Racing
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: I have the upmost respect for what this team has been able to do since their inception in 2005. In the day and age where the almighty dollar powers NASCAR, Furniture Row has grown to be a team that will make races and run top 30. The 78 team made 19 out of 36 races last year, finishing 42nd in Owner's points, with a mix of drivers. In 2008, they'll have stability with a proven talent in the form of veteran Joe Nemecheck. Joe's 2007 came to an abrupt end in the DEI-Ginn merger, as a result of the 13 becoming the 15 and the 14 being dissolved. Joe fell victim to youth versus experience, and in 2008, his years of experience will help to give FRR a solid base, looking towards the future. In 2008, Nemecheck will have an alright year. FRR improved over the course of last year, and will compete to make races in 2008, and will have some good runs, like they did with Kenny Wallace at times in 2007. Nemecheck could feasibly get one or two top 15s, and could be in the mix to stay in the top 35. Nemecheck will end up between 35th and 42nd in points.

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.

I agree with you Mike. Disappointing for Nemechek though. In 2005 he didn't get eliminated from Chase contention until the 26th race and he's with an independent team. But since they use hendrick engines at restrictor plate races I bet he makes the 500.

2008 Preview
#: 83
Driver: Brian Vickers
Sponsor: Red Bull Energy Drink
Make: Toyota Camry
Team: Team Red Bull
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: Brian Vickers jumping ship from Hendrick to upstart TRB in 2007 was viewed by many as an insane move, and by his stats in '07, 23 starts, 1 top 5, 5 top tens, 38th in points, it looked like Vickers had made the wrong move. However, Vickers is a young, very talented driver with a young team with a lot of promise and a whole different way of doing things. Testing has looked promising for TRB and Toyota so far this year, and Vickers and the 83 were the best Toyota team last year when they made the race. With the way Toyota's performed in testing, I don't think that'll be an issue for them. TRB also has the added bonus, like every other Toyota team, of JGR jumping on board. Vickers is too talented a driver to not run well in '08 in equipment that will be better. In 2008, TRB and Vickers will continue to improve, perhaps posting a win, getting 2-3 top 5s and 5-7 top tens, en route to a 20th-30th place finish in points.

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.
