2008 Preview
#: 84
Driver: AJ Allmendinger
Sponsor: Red Bull Energy Drink
Make: Toyota Camry
Team: Team Red Bull
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: AJ Allmendinger, hit everything but the pacecar in 2007, competing against a steep learning curve. Allmendinger started only 17 races in 2007, finishing 43rd in points, but he improved immensely over the course of his first season driving stock cars. Allmendinger showed a lot of progress by season's end, finally beginning to show some comfort in the racecar and with his team, especially after TRB and CGR put AJ in the 42 Busch car for the last few races of '07. So far in 2008, AJ has showed some speed in testing, running very high on the speed charts at Daytona, Vegas and California. This is attributed to his increase in seat time, and the added help of JGR to the Toyota stables. Allmendinger is a phenomenal driving talent, who simply needs seat time and experience to hone his skills in stock cars, to sharpen them to the point that they were in his CCWS days. AJ will continue to show improvement in 2008, posting, maybe a top ten or two, while making all, if not for one or two, of the races in 2008, competing for the 35th position, and ultimately finishing between 32nd and 37th in points.

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.

Team Red Bull will be the most improved Team in 2008. Both cars will make the top-35, and then some. Vickers may even win a race finishing in the top-20. AJ will be the most improved driver. They will make every race and be Chase worthy in 09.

2008 Preview
#: 88
Driver: Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Sponsor: AMP and The National Guard
Make: Chevrolet Impala SS
Team: Hendrick Motorsports
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: Everything's been said about his 2007, so not much needs to be said about that. It's all about the future for Junior, and whether or not he can perform at Hendrick in the way that everyone expects him to perform. He'll definitely be more relaxed next year, away from the melodrama that is DEI, and will have a comfortable relationship with his team, with Eury Jr. following him over. In 2008, we'll see an improvement out of Jr. I'm one of the skeptics that thinks that Jr. isn't as great as everyone makes him out to be, but I do think he'll run much better at Hendrick. He'll win between 2-4 times in 2008, with a lot of top 5s and top 10s, and will make the Chase. Finishing between 7th and 12th.

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.

once again, I'm with you Mike. Jr ain't the greatest. I am hoping oh am I hoping that he blows his engine within the first few laps of the 500 this year. I would laugh at all those Jr fans saying what they say.

but on all seriousness. 1-3 wins. I bet he runs like Casey Mears did towards the end of last year. Maybe better a little better. I'm gonna guess he'll make the chase, get on stage for the banquet, but not contend for the title. The title will probably come down to the big 3. Jeff, Jimmie, and Tony

I think he'll finish 3rd-5th in points with 3-4 wins, and have a performance similar to 2003.

No more Pepsi 400...:(

From Jayski:

Coke Zero to sponsor Daytona race in July: Coke Zero is taking the driver’s seat as the new title sponsor of the July Sprint Cup Series race at the Daytona International Speedway. Officially, the race will be entitled the “Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola.” To bring NASCAR fans closer to the sport they love and create excitement about the race, Coke Zero and Daytona International Speedway are hosting an online voting contest that allows fans to choose the official race logo. Beginning in conjunction with the 50th running of the Daytona 500, fans can visit NASCAR.com to vote for their favorite from two logo options. The winning logo, determined solely by fan votes, will be revealed on NASCAR.com immediately after the contest concludes on March 1, 2008. Scheduled for July 5, the 2008 Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola, concludes a holiday weekend of racing at Daytona International Speedway. The Nationwide Series takes to the speedway for the running of the Winn-Dixie 250 Powered By Coca-Cola on July 4. The debut of the Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola is part of a new 10-year sponsorship agreement between Coca-Cola North America (CCNA) and International Speedway Corporation (ISC). Through a variety of track partnerships, brands from CCNA will be refreshing fans at 12 race tracks in 2008 before expanding to 16 race tracks by 2012.(businesswire.com)(2-8-2008)

Driver: J.J. Yeley
Sponsor: DLP
Make: Toyota Camry
Team: HOF Racing
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: Yeley has really improved since the begining of his stock car career with Gibbs. He finished 21st in 2007 with 1 top five and 3 top tens. And has showed a lot of promise and consistency, cutting down on his number of wrecks. HOF racing is also improving, and in 2008 with JGR and the new Toyota power plants, that have shown a lot of promise, I look for HOF racing to run better, but by the same token, Yeley will not have the same powerhouse team around him, so he may run worse than he did with JGR in '07, but he'll out perform Raines' '07 and '06 work. In 2008, Yeley will have between 1-3 top fives, 2-7 top tens, and will finish betwen 20th and 27th in points.

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.

Im a Jr fan, I didnt go bashing your Gibbs team man....but since you did Jr by saying that you hope he blows up on the first few laps of the 500....I hope Kyle wrecks Tony which in turns collects Denny on lap 5.....lol! Dale Jr is a very good driver plain & simple. The naysayers that dog Jr want to compare him to his father & his father accomplishments. It isnt going to happen that way. Junior ran great last season, he just ran in bad luck in the form of engine failures. With joining Hendrick, that should not be a problem anymore & it is Jr's time to silence his critics. My prediction is this team will mesh fast & we will see good results first ha;f of the season & by the time the hit the tracks for the second time around he will be running strong. He'll make the chase this year & finish in the Top 3...probably 3rd (winning the championship in '09). He'll have about 3-4wins.

I think Yeley will run just about the same as he did in the 18 car.

Is HOF racing still a satellite team of JGR?? If so then technically J.J Yeley didn't leave JGR. I think he will get at least 1 maybe 2 top 10s this year.

nbaker, the driver situation for the 4 car is uncertain. They will be sponsored by State Water Heaters for the full 36 race schedule, but there has been no official announcement as to the driver. It could be Ward again, but Todd Bodine started the last race of the season at Homestead, and some rumors have him in that car for '08.
Update on the Morgan-McClure situation: The State Water Heater sponsorship went away and was picked up by Haas CNC racing, and the #4 team has laid-off everyone and has temporarily shuttered the operation. Such a shame.........

I see Jr's situation the same as when Danica moved to AGR: You now have the best equipment in the series, no more excuses left.

I know what you are saying Hammer but I don't think Jr ever made any excuses either...the puff of smoke race after race told the story.

2008 Preview
#: 99
Driver: Carl Edwards
Sponsor: Office Depot
Make: Ford Fusion
Team: Roush-Fenway Racing
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: Edwards had his sophomore slump in 2006 when he missed the chase, but Carl was back in full force in 2007, winning the Nationwide series title, and finishing 9th in Cup points with 3 wins, 11 top fives and 15 top tens. He started out '07 slowly, but was running very well and very consistently towards the end of the season. In 2008, he'll continue that momentum, and I think we'll see an even better Carl Edwards. He'll win 3-5 races, rack up between 12-20 top fives, 15-25 top tens, and will finish 4th in points.

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.
