Expect Carl to exceed last years results, maybe 5 wins and a higher position in the final standings. However, I don't see him becoming a serious title contender until he devotes more time to the cup program. Nationwide title persuit too time consuming.

I agree. He needs to decide what he wants to be more. Nationwide Champion or Sprint Cup Champion. Because I don't think anyone will ever be both in the same year.

yes, as a carl edwards fan myself, i do agree that he probably wont be a consistent contender (top 5- top 3) until he focuses more on cup not nationwide. I think we will see 3-5 wins 10-15 top 5s and 20-25 top tens and between 4-8 in the points at the end of 2008

I see Carl doing well this year. I think Jack put more emphasise on the COT program this year so they all should be up front. I see him finishing within the top 7 in points, with 3 wins.

2008 Preview
#: 00
Driver: Michael McDowell (31 Races), David Reutimann (5 Races)
Sponsor: Aaron's
Make: Toyota Camry
Team: Michael Waltrip Racing
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: The 00 team finished 39th in owner's points in 2007, making only 29 of the 36 races. In 2008, with the improvements of Toyota and MWR, I expect Reutimann to put the 00 in the top 35 in points after 5 races, before handing it over to rookie Michael McDowell for the remainder of the schedule. However, with McDowell behind the wheel, a truly unproven driver who MWR has put into cup with very little experience in Trucks and Nationwide, I don't think he'll be able to sustain it in the top 35. We'll have to see how good McDowell actually is, though. He may surprise a lot of us, but he may also do exactly what everyone expects of him, and will struggle mightily in 2008. I see him finishing last in ROTY points, and between 37th and 45th in points.

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.

Tomorrow: (2/11) #01 Regan Smith

Team previews left to do:

2/12: #07 Clint Bowyer
2/13: Truck Series Preview
2/14: Nationwide Series Preview (Twin 150s)
2/15: Chevy Silverado 250 (Truck Race)
2/16: Camping World 300 (Nationwide Series)
2/17: DAYTONA 500

With a year under both David's and Toyota's belt, I think better days are on the horizon and input from JGR certainly won't hurt either. Have been watching McDowell since his Daytona Prototype stint and he's a competent driver, but talk about throwing him out on the tightrope without a net! Just hope his confidence doesn't suffer for it.

Reutimann, has a better year than last year & should finish within the top 25 in points.

Schrader, well he struggles this year again. & fails to stay in the top 35 in points all year long.

Jimmie Johnson and Michael Waltrip on the front row for the Daytona 500.
Waltrip, Nemechek, and Reutimann are locked in for outside the top 35 drivers.

2008 Preview
#: 01
Driver: Regan Smith
Sponsor: Principal Financial Group and Steakumm
Make: Chevrolet Impala SS
Team: Dale Earnhardt, Inc.
2008 Scheme: (This is the best picture I could find)

Predictions for 2008: Regan had some good results in 2007, and is a pretty decently talented driver who can only improve with more seat time. As one of the only estabilished oval trackers in the 2008 Rookie class, I think he'll be one of the favorites, but as I said earlier, I picked Franchitti, so I think Regan Smith will finish 2nd. Smith could surprise a lot of people this season. I think he'll finish between 25th and 30th in points with maybe 1 top five and 3-5 top tens.

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.

Tomorrow: (2/11) #07 Clint Bowyer

Team previews left to do:

2/12: Truck Series Preview
2/13: Nationwide Series Preview
2/14: Twin 150s
2/15: Chevy Silverado 250 (Truck Race)
2/16: Camping World 300 (Nationwide Series)
2/17: DAYTONA 500

Regan should do ok overall. I do see him struggling at some tracks but with Mark Martin as a mentor...how can you go wrong.

2008 Preview
#: 07
Driver: Clint Bowyer
Sponsor: Jack Daniel's
Make: Chevrolet Impala SS
Team: Richard Childress Racing
2008 Scheme:

Predictions for 2008: Clint Bowyer had one of the most surprising 2007 seasons. He not only made the chase, but finished third in points, with a win, 5 top fives and 17 top tens. In 2008, he can only improve his numbers. RCR has gotten back to their form of old, and with Burton and Harvick as teammates, Bowyer has a lot of experience to pool off of. Clint will win 1-3 races in 2008, he'll improve his top 5 and top 10 numbers by at least 5 a piece, but with the strength of the field, he'll finish from 5th-10th in points.

Please contibute your predictions and comments for this driver, but please remember to be respectful of other's opinions, and keep it clean.

Scenarios for drivers to get into the Daytona 500

From JAYSKI:

Drivers who are not yet assured of a spot in the 500 and how they can get in:
Who Could Get In Via Duels/
Qualifying Time
#60-Boris Said: Fastest of non-qualifiers, but could make the 500 one of two ways -- if he finishes first or second among the go-or-go-home drivers, or if #55-Michael Waltrip, #78-Joe Nemechek or #00-David Reutimann finish top-2 among the drivers not in on owners' points.
#10-Patrick Carpentier: Second-fastet of non-qualifiers, but could make the 500 one of two ways -- if he finishes first or second among the go-or-go-home drivers or if Waltrip, Nemechek, Reutimann or Said finish top-2 among the drivers not in on owenrs points.
#83-Brian Vickers: Third-fastert non-qualifier, but could make the 500 one of two ways -- if he finishes among the top-2 among the go-or-go-home drivers, or if Waltrip, Nemechek, Reutimann, Said or Carpentier finish top-2 among the drivers not in on owners points.
#27-Jacques Villeneuve: Fourth-fastest non-qualifiers, but could make the 500 one of two ways -- if he finishes among the top-2 among the go-or-go-home drivers, or if Nemechek, Reutimann, Said and Carpentier finish top-2 among the drivers not in on owners points.
Past Champions
#21-Bill Elliott: The 1988 champion must place top-2 among the go or go-homers in his duel or hope both #2-Kurt Busch and #44-Dale Jarrett finish top-2 in their Duels.
#44-Dale Jarrett: must finish top-2 among the go or go-homers, unless Busch manages to do that. Then Jarrett would earn the past champion's provisional because his 1999 championship is more recent than Elliott's 1988 title.
Who Must Race Their Way In: #50-Stanton Barrett; #49-Ken Schrader; #08-Carl Long; #37-Eric McClure; #09-Sterling Marlin; #84-AJ Allmendinger; #87-Kenny Wallace; #34-John Andretti.(Daytona Neach News Journal), see the lineup with notes and more on my Gatorade Duel 150 Lineups page.(2-11-2008) Comment here.
