I don't see Bowyer finishing as high as he did he last year. I think he'll make the chase and win 2 or 3 races.

I see Bowyer having the same season as 2007.....
That 00 car might win a few races!

2008 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Preview

Link to Jayski's 2008 CTS Team Chart: http://jayski.com/cts/2008cts.htm

    Pre-season top ten:

    1. 23 Johnny Benson - Bill Davis Racing Toyota: He's been very good the last two seasons, winning a lot of races, but not able to hold the consistency to be considered a real championship threat. That will change in 2008. 3-6 wins

    2. 5 Mike Skinner - Bill Davis Racing Toyota: Skinner had a phenomenally resurgent year in 2007, running well all year but being beaten out by Hornaday at Homestead for the title. He'll win races in '08, he'll post top tens like he did in 2007, and he'll be a title threat. 3-6 wins

    http://jayski.com/schemes/2008/trucks/5tundra-08.jpg

    3. 33 Ron Hornaday - Kevin Harvick, Inc. Chevrolet: The 2007 CTS Champion, and now tied with Sprague for most titles all-time, Hornaday had a renaissance season, showing signs of his old self. He was very consistent, and a threat to win most weeks. Now that he has Jack Sprague as a teammate, Hornaday can do nothing but benefit from the added input of his co-greatest driver in the history of the NCTS. 2-6 wins

    4. 2 Jack Sprague - Kevin Harvick, Inc. Chevrolet: Spargue comes to CTS powerhouse KHI after struggling two years, for his standards, with startup team Wyler Racing. Sprague and Hornaday are the most potent one-two punch in the history of the NCTS. I rank them 3-4 as opposed to 1-2 because this duo, while extremely hyped up, is unproven, compared to the already established Benson-Skinner team. 3-5 wins

    5. 30 Todd Bodine - Germain Racing Toyota: This team has really come along way. They won the title with Bodine in 2006, and are a true championship threat. My only question is whether their venture into Nationwide and Cup on a part-time basis, will hurt the CTS side of operations any. 3-7 wins

    6. 99 Erik Darnell - Roush-Fenway Racing Ford: Darnell has shown all the potential in the world, and coming into his 3rd season in the 99 RF Ford, I expect him to have a breakout year. Winning a race or two, and finishing mid-high in the top ten. 1-3 wins

    7. 59 Ted Musgrave - HT Motorsports Dodge: Musgrave, the 2005 series champion, had a bad year last season. He changes teams in 2008, and will perform better, but not to the level at which we are accustomed to seing him run in the Truck Series. 1-2 wins

    8. 6 Colin Braun (ROTY) - Roush-Fenway Racing Ford: Braun is the rookie in the best equipment, and the guy can flat out drive. He'll win the rookie of the year award handily, and may visit victory lane one or twice, en route to a 5-10 place finish in points, and a legitimate title shot in 2009. He's the future of Roush-Fenway. 1-2 wins.

    9. 11 David Starr - Red Horse Racing Toyota: Starr is a perrenial top ten driver, who will run consistently, scoring a win, and will fly under the radar to a low top ten finish. 0-1 wins.

    10. 88 Matt Crafton - Thorsport Racing Chevrolet: Crafton's another driver who seems to fly under the radar pretty well, en route to consistent top ten finishes in points. I expect more of the same from him in 2008. 0-1 wins.

    Other notables:
    4 Stacy Compton
    8 Chad McCumbee
    10 Brendan Gaughan
    14 Rick Crawford
    18 Dennis Setzer
    60 Terry Cook
    09 Joey Clanton

I think Setzer will finish between 5th-10th in points. He and the BHR team were meshing together extremely well at the end of last year.

That 40 scheme could be better! (Points at the #9 Nitro car from Texas 2006)
    K&N colors looks cool!
    Benson, truck champ 2008
    Bodine, 2nd
Hornaday, a good season once again...

    2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series Preview

Link to Jayski's 2008 Nationwide Series Team Chart: Jayski's® Silly Season Site - 2008 Nationwide Series Drivers/Team Table

This is a tough series to preview because there are so many drivers who run part time and double duty, so I'll preview who I think will finish in the top ten, and then other notables.

    Pre-season top ten:

    1. 2 Clint Bowyer - Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet: Clint returns to running the full-time schedule in 2008. Childress is the team to beat in the Nationwide series, and he'll be strong. 3-6 wins.

    2. 60 Carl Edwards - Roush-Fenway Ford: Defending champion will be very tough to beat as he enters the full Nationwide series campaign, again. However, I think he'll be focused more on the Cup side this season, and will slip a little bit on the NNS side. 4-7 wins.

    3. 6 David Ragan - Roush-Fenway Ford: Ragan will improve a lot in 2008, and another full-time year in Nationwide will help him immensely. He'll run well, and it'll show on both sides of the garage, Cup and NNS. Lots of top tens, and 1-4 wins for Ragan.

    4. 99 David Reutimann - Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota: With the improvements of Toyota, I think Reutimann could be more of a title threat than I give him credit for, but with only one win in 2007, and a distant second in points, I'll have to see something on the track to back up the hype. 2-3 wins.

    5. 33/77 Kevin Harvick - KHI Chevrolet: Kevin Harvick will have another Kevin Harvick season. He won't be in all 35 races, but will be on the stage in Orlando at season's end with the best average finish in 2008. 4-8 wins.

    6. 59 Marcos Ambrose - Wood Brothers\JTG Racing Ford: He will be the best of the Nationwide regulars, and will break through with a couple wins. Ambrose is a very talented driver, and will need '08 to finish honing his stock car skills before what seems like an imminent promotion to the 21 car in Cup for 2009. 1-3 wins.

    7. 1 Johnny Sauter - James Finch Racing Chevrolet: Sauter's back in 2008, full-time, and the seemingly career AAA driver will have a usual Sauter, Nationwide series season, top tens, maybe a win, and consistent. 0-2 wins.

    8. 29 Scott Wimmer - Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet: Here's another guy that will be in Orlando at season's end without having been in all 35 races. Wimmer is driving for the defending Owner's champion in an expanded role, and will improve on his finishes in '07. Lots of top fives and top tens, and 3-5 wins.

    9. 38 Jason Leffler - Braun Racing Toyota: Leffler had been the perennial best of the Nationwide guys for a while, but he'll fall to third in that category, having another typical Leffler season, low top ten in points, possibly a win. 0-2 wins.

    10. 7 Mike Wallace - Germain Racing Toyota: Mike Wallace, the veteran of this top ten, always a great Nationwide series racer, will run very consistently, scoring a lot of top 15's. Of all of the Nationwide series regulars, he's the best plate racer, and is probably vastly underrated for his plate racing ability on the cup side. 0-1 wins (possibly at Daytona or Talladega)

    Other Notables:

5 Dale Jr., Mark Martin, Jimmie Johnson, Landon Cassil - Hendrick Motorsports: With all of the talent and up and coming talent in this ride, I see this making the top ten in owner's points, no problem. 2-5 wins.

9 Patrick Carpentier, Kasey Kahne, Elliott Sadler - GEM Dodge: Should be interesting. Kahne and Sadler, together, could win a couple races. This is mainly for Carpentier's growth, I'd imagine, and I think he could surprise us at times. 0-2 wins.

10 Brian Vickers, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin - Braun Racing Toyota: Toyota stars in this ride. Top ten in owner's points, 2-4 wins.

16 Greg Biffle, Todd Kluever, Colin Braun - Roush-Fenway Racing Ford: Biffle won't have as big a schedule as he's had in past years. Kluever and Braun will be in more races, gaining experience. The team will be top 15 in owner's points. 2-3 wins.

17 Matt Kenseth, Erik Darnell - Roush-Fenway Racing Ford: I expect the same kind of season as in season's past from Kenseth. Darnell is a good driver, and will gain a lot of experience in his 6 races this year. Top 15 driver's for Kenseth, and owner's for the 17. 3-5 wins.

20 Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart - Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota: This is Logano's starting at Dover, and the he will impress. He's your 2008 Rookie of the year. Top 15 in driver's points, with 2-3 wins. The 20 will be top 10 in owner's, 3-5 wins.

21 Bobby Labonte, Stephen Leicht - RCR Chevrolet: Probably the best team in the NNS. Labonte will win 1-2 races, Leicht may win one. Top 10 in owner's, 1-3 wins.

40 Dario Franchitti, Reed Sorenson - CGR Dodge: Another experience ride. Dario may surprise by season's end. 0-1 wins.

    27 Brad Coleman

    Uh oh....lol

Earnhardt Jr.'s Car Impounded by NASCAR: Speedweeks at Daytona International Speedway hasn't been perfect for Dale Earnhardt Jr. after all. The #5 car Earnhardt will drive in Saturday's Nationwide Series opener was impounded by NASCAR on Thursday night after officials discovered the team altered the spoiler to create an aerodynamic advantage following inspection. The car was returned on Friday morning minus the trunk lid and spoiler, repaired and sent back through inspection. It will be allowed to run in the race. Joe Balash, the Nationwide Series director, said further sanctions against the team and crew chief Chad Walter will be issued on Tuesday. NASCAR officials considered sending Walter home because the offense was considered blatant, but opted to hold off on what could result in a suspension.(ESPN.com)(2-15-2008)

Also this is kindof sad to see...

Elliott to retire for good at end of 2008: After 33 years on the NASCAR trail, Dawsonville's Bill Elliott is ready to head down another path. #21-Elliott, who did not finish high enough in Thursday's 150-mile qualifier to start Sunday's Daytona 500, said 2008 will be his last year as a Sprint Cup driver. "I've thoroughly enjoyed it, but it's time to move on and let this other generation have it," Elliott said. "I just feel like it's good to let everyone know what my thinking is. I've kind of put it off and rolled with the flow these last few years, but it's time. It's time to go do something different." He said he'll continue to drive the #21 Wood Brothers Ford on a part-time basis as he had planned, but if the Woods' other drivers, Marcos Ambrose and Jon Wood, seem ready to take on a larger role, he might cut short his planned 17-race schedule. "Ambrose might fall into place, or Jon might fall into place, and that would be what the Woods need to do to make the next step," he said. Another young racer is figuring into Elliott's decision, too —- his 12-year-old son Chase, who is rapidly developing into a formidable competitor in the Bandolero racing series. Traveling to Chase's races and also competing in Cup races has proved to be a logistical nightmare. "Last summer, I'd go race with Chase on Thursday night, then I'd pick up and go to wherever the Cup race was," Elliott said. "The earliest I got anywhere was 10 p.m., and it could be up to 4 in the morning to get where I was going, depending on when we raced. That's crazy." As a full-time driver, Elliott won 44 Cup races, 55 poles and the 1988 championship, but since going to part-time status after the 2003 season, he has had just one top-10 finish, at Indianapolis in 2004. Still, he has no regrets about the latter part of his career.(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)(2-15-2008) Comment here

Earnhardt: So that's how he's done it...lol j/k. But seriously, its just Hendrick looking for that little extra edge outside the box.

Elliott: I could've sworn he retired in 2003, but he just kept getting rides for the champions provisional. Still, it is sad to see such an awesome driver, and person, walk away.

Lineup for the Nationwide race tomorrow. Stewart on the pole.

Like Earnhardt said though, it was something that did not need to be done...I'm sure the car was more than capable of winning without the alteration to the spoiler.

Bill semi retire at the end of the 2003 season but sill drove some races for Evernham for R&D....but with him, Jarrett, Wallace gone...thats an end to another era.
