This is the first time I've seen a team fill in the back plate of the Camaro. I gotta say, it works really well.

Pic also confirms the numbers are connected, which I believe hasn’t been allowed since 2000 outside of the throwback Southern 500 and apparently the ASR too. Of course we’ve seen teams switch their number entirely for the ASR so this isn’t really a surprise, it’s just the fist time someones tried it

Greg Biffle has some sort of special announcement to make later this afternoon. Is there a chance that he might get a few races in the #6 car this season (if he has the sponsorship to do it)? See below:

Biffle returns to the 16 for Roush with sponsorship from Hardee's, totally calling it.

Biffle's announcement has nothing to do with racing.

I remember in 2015 after Kentucky we were all for the low downforce package. In some ways, it's worked. I think passing is a little easier than it used to be. But there were some drawbacks that we can see three years later.

Cars get spread out more, the difference in car is much more apparent down straightaways because power means more, and sometimes the cars are SO out of control that drivers have to focus on not crashing, so they can't really race effectively. What I've seen this weekend was pretty cool. The big spoiler looks awesome, and the racing was undeniably close and you still saw talent show through, albeit in a different way. There are those that will hate it because it's different, or just because it has the label of being a "plate race" but the product was better. The race was more exciting.

There are issues, though, that I'd like to see addressed before NASCAR totally gets on board with it. I think we could open the plates just a little more to prevent the engines bogging down quite so much. I think we could bring a little more downforce back into it. But I also want to see the cars less aero dependent in the nose. I think if we could get the valence back, scrap the splitter, and move the downforce rearward, we could improve driveability and still remove that front end aero grip dependance that we've seen. Mechanical grip is good, too, so setting a max spring stiffness that is a lot softer could also be an improvement. I like this direction (for 1.5 mile tracks only) so I think it's worth NASCAR's time to look at this full time. Short tracks can be left alone.
Road courses might benefit from bigger power and more downforce like we had in '14.

All in all, good experiment. From my perspective, fans' biggest complaint is the racing on 1.5 mile tracks. If we can get 'em all like this, it's a huge step.

If anything, also remove as much reliance of side-force in the corners as possible as well..... There's a reason why the Gen 5 car was "crab-walking" along the straights and why the Gen 6 car has the right side shifted out slightly, and that's due to the dependency of the side-force on the right side of the car when turning. If someone within NASCAR's R&D center can figure out a way to lessen the need for that, it could potentially help out as well.
