The SRD SuperTrucks are back for the opening round of the 2019 Playoffs here at one of the oldest tracks in stock car racing, Richmond Raceway! Eight drivers, six races, one champion. In a Playoff field split evenly down the middle will it be a veteran who uses their past experience to win the title or will a rookie be determined to prove himself as an SRD Champion?

This will be the first time the SRD SuperTrucks have been on this 3/4 mile oval since 2016 when Bob Laryson (Ray Tustin) started from the pole, lost the lead from Victor Souza early, and overcame a six second lead to battle back for the victory. Out of the 34 drivers in the field this weekend only six were present for the race here in 2016: Ben Althen, Jacob Craigo, Sean English, D.J. Harris, Joshua Hawkins, and Ryan Wayne.

As a reminder of the Playoff format, the opening round will be three races, two drivers will be cut from the Playoffs before moving on to the second round (4 races), and then another two will be cut out for a four driver winner-take-all event at Homestead Miami Speedway. A win automatically advances the driver to the next round.

Throughout the Playoffs drivers can be easily identified as contenders as their trucks will be branded with both their splitter and rear spoiler colored in SRD Blue as well as their trucks will be sporting the SRD SuperTruck Series Playoffs Decal. Once a driver is eliminated their truck will return to their normal livery.

Here's hoping we have our end of the regular season slump gone... hate it for our teammate as he was great at the start of the season. I think we have the program going back in the right direction!

Pretty excited about our race tonight. Been top fifteen all day long, and even though we didn't set one fast lap in final practice, we were trying some different things to help the long run. I can't wait to race tonight, I think we've got a great shot to have a top five run, and who knows, maybe even win!

Fiorentini: "So far, our pace has been all over the place. We did put in a great lap in qualifying, but we don't seem as fast in traffic as in clean air. Still, I feel like we can have a great race tomorrow."

"So the #98 team went from 25th in FP1 to 14th in Quali and then crashing back down to 32nd in FP2. Our pace is all over the place, jeez."

Before we go racing tonight there's an interesting trend that I found...

Regular Season Champion:
2018 Alex Miller (English Motorsports)
--------------------------------------------2019 Connor Root (English Motorsports)

Regular Season Finale Winner:
2018 Sean English (English Motorsports)
---------------------------------------------------2019 Connor Root (English Motorsports)

First Driver Outside Playoffs: 2018 D.J. Harris
-------------------------------------------------2019 D.J. Harris

It'll be interesting to see if we can add anything else to this trend before all is said and done.

And we're rolling! Steven Merzlak our polesitter today with rookie playoff driver Joey Kraus to his outside.

Lap 1 (Green Flag): Here we go, green flag waving we're racing under the lights in Richmond! Merzlak gets a great jump as he'll clear Kraus into turns one and two. Kraus hangs tough on the outside down the backstraight but here comes Jacob Craigo to take over the second position as Kraus falls into line in the third spot.

Lap 2:
A little threewide action early in the back of the field between Mahoney, Farrell, and Peterson! You see those trucks with the blue splitters and spoilers, the 41, 67, and 76, they're Playoff contenders. Hopefully they'll find their way toward the front after dismal qualifying runs.

Lap 3 (Lead Change): Jacob Craigo now looking for the lead! He carried some momentum off the high side in turns three and four allowing him to make a crossover move heading into turns one and two. The 62 takes over the top spot.

Lap 4:
Battle between Playoff contenders, Matheus Fiorentini drops to the bottom in turn four as he should clear the 69 of Kraus down the frontstraight.

Lap 6:
Big mover alert, Caleb Farrell started this race 33rd out of 34 trucks he's already up 12 spots to 21st! Farrell had the fastest truck in final practice yesterday, expect him to continue moving toward the front.

Lap 10:
Four-wide down the backstretch for the tenth position! They've been making some pretty wild moves early in this one, I don't know if they'll be able to keep doing this without wrecking a truck or two. Ryan Wayne comes out on top of this battle, as a Playoff driver he's just trying to keep his Toyota Tundra clean.
