The SRD SuperTrucks are back for the opening round of the 2019 Playoffs here at one of the oldest tracks in stock car racing, Richmond Raceway! Eight drivers, six races, one champion. In a Playoff field split evenly down the middle will it be a veteran who uses their past experience to win the title or will a rookie be determined to prove himself as an SRD Champion?
This will be the first time the SRD SuperTrucks have been on this 3/4 mile oval since 2016 when Bob Laryson (Ray Tustin) started from the pole, lost the lead from Victor Souza early, and overcame a six second lead to battle back for the victory. Out of the 34 drivers in the field this weekend only six were present for the race here in 2016: Ben Althen, Jacob Craigo, Sean English, D.J. Harris, Joshua Hawkins, and Ryan Wayne.
As a reminder of the Playoff format, the opening round will be three races, two drivers will be cut from the Playoffs before moving on to the second round (4 races), and then another two will be cut out for a four driver winner-take-all event at Homestead Miami Speedway. A win automatically advances the driver to the next round.
Throughout the Playoffs drivers can be easily identified as contenders as their trucks will be branded with both their splitter and rear spoiler colored in SRD Blue as well as their trucks will be sporting the SRD SuperTruck Series Playoffs Decal. Once a driver is eliminated their truck will return to their normal livery.
