I'm not surprised it won't be Wallace, but who in the hell is Billy Johnson?

He ran for Roush Racing a couple of years ago in the Xfinity Series at the road courses.

Really cool to see a legitimate road course racer driving in equipment that he could win in. Miss the days of Scott Pruett, Ron Fellows, and Boris Said jumping in equipment that they could run top 5 with.

Johnson has made 5 road course starts in Xfinity (none since 2013) with 1 top 10. Wallace has made 6 and has 3 top 10s.

Johnson is a great driver. Drove Mustangs in the IMSA Continental series last year and drove a GT at LeMans this year.

This. You all won't have to read my annual Sonoma "it was better when ringers ran good equipment" bitchfest this year

As much as I like Bubba. I say put Billy in the car and let's see what he can do with it. I will take anything to see that #43 running up front again.

I just liked it because they usually didn't care about anyone's feelings or the points standings, and they made for some excellent finishes.

Totally agree, the mid 2000s economic bubble were the best days for ringers. So many companies wanted to sponsor that teams would just throw extra cars out there for ringers, and usually full time drivers low in points (but in good equipment) would be removed for ringers as well. I think 2003 Sonoma Cup race had Boris Said, Robby Gordon and Ron Fellows qualify 1-2-3. There was also a time when Terry Labonte became a road course ringer for 3 or 4 years, snagged a 3rd at Sonoma in that shitty #96 which was a Gibbs satellite car at the time as a RC ringer (which I think was right after his brother had unceremoniously left JGR).
