Hi all, I'm new here although I'm using nr2003 since it was released. I just discovered that the community has produced some tracks with day to night transition (Chicagoland and Kentucky by smiffsden and Daytona by revampedreloaded) but I can't make them to work. The only one that works partially is Chicagoland where I can see the sky changing and the light get lit at dusk: I said partially because when I load the track it always starts with the sky at dusk and not in full daylight. At Kentucky and Daytona the sky is always stuck at dusk and all lights are lit, plus at Daytona I can see the grandstands shadow as if it is daytime.

Anyone have any idea of what could be the problem?
Thanks for any help and regards

PS I'm using nr2003 under win XP with an Nvidia GT440 graphic card.

How long are you running in the track? I know that on the SDT tracks, the D-T-N transition is quite slow. It probably takes more than 50 laps before you will see the sky and environment starting to get darker.

Thanks for the reply. I tried a 1 hour and a half run in each track but I saw a small change only in Chicagoland (and in Homestead that I installed meanwhile). The real problem is that when I load all day to night tracks, the sky is at dusk and not at noon (it seems like if, from the 79 mip files that makes the sky transition, it starts from the middle ones).

Well, I can only speak with first hand experience to the tracks I have worked on with Ian at SDT. The following are day-to-night transition tracks that were released by SDT:

    Chicagoland: http://www.smiffsden.com/enews.php?id=23#.WlANCXlG2Uk
    Homestead-Miami: http://www.smiffsden.com/enews.php?id=7#.WlAONnlG2Uk
    Homestead-Miami 2013: http://www.smiffsden.com/enews.php?id=63#.WlAPJHlG2Uk
    Kentucky 2011: http://www.smiffsden.com/enews.php?id=18#.WlAObHlG2Uk
    Kentucky 2012: http://www.smiffsden.com/enews.php?id=40#.WlAOunlG2Uk

All of them have the day-to-night transition mips embedded in the dat file of each track. In order for the DtN transition to work and look right (i.e. transition from full daylight to full darkness) you do not need to add those 79 mip files to the shared folder nor do you need to add any other files to the tracks. All of these transition the sky beautifully as is, but as I said previously, that transition takes quite awhile. However, knowing that and understanding people's urge to see the sky transition more quickly, we included an alternate ptf in the Kentucky 2011 track that speeds up the sky transition by double the speed. (I can't remember if we included those alternate ptfs that double the transition time in any of the other tracks.) There are instructions in the README on how to use that alt. ptf.

As for the Daytona track from Revamped Reloaded, I'm not sure, but I think I remember that the sky starts at dusk and transitions to a full nighttime sky. So if that's what you're experiencing, that's probably how the author's of that version of the track wanted it to look.

    I hope this info helps.
