How the new point system works is the top 10 drivers in points for the first 26 races will make the chase along with two non-top ten drivers who have the most victories among the non-top ten. NASCAR also plans to do 1 point system increments, the winner of a race would get 43 points, last place would get 1, lead a lap is 1 bonus point, a win before the chase is 2-3 bonus points.

If NASCAR intends on changing the core points system at least divide the eras up into what they should be.

    1949-1971: Pre-Modern Era
    1972-2003: Modern Era
    2004-2010: Steady decline
2011- Present: We don't know yet.

I just hope they incorporate this into all three of the top touring series. It seems kind of odd to have a whole different points structure for Cup and Nationwide and Trucks still use the old points structure.

I still prefer the old one. This system is even more confusing than the old one. (When it comes to Chase seeding, and such).

This is an easier points system to understand and that's exactly what I hate about it.

If France knows anything about sports fans they like a challenge. That's why the most confusing national sport in the United States is also the most-watched and the most popular.

The Cup series has had a different points system than the others for the past seven years. The other two series don't need all the bells and whistles they're throwing at the Cup series to make them exciting.

I'll have to wait and see how this works out, but I think I'm going to like this change.

I meant the core structure. All 3 series worked the same way minus the bonus points and the chase. The change will make the cup system a entirely separate entity then the other touring series.

Really? The 2003 system was pretty easy to understand.

The 2003 system is exactly the same as the two systems used after it when it comes to points except for the amount of points rewarded to the winner.

It has some good some bad. I just was hoping they would wait till next year to change it.

This is the problem with today's NASCAR. They always want it done now instead of waiting about a year. Teams have to prepare for the changes, of course they're not gonna prepare it within a month. It shows. If they prepare it well in advance, they will know what's coming. But introducing it now is almost like catching pretty much everyone in the dark.

I honestly wish that it didn't have to be this way, but Brian France screwed NASCAR up to the point where I have the general European opinion about the sport: just a bunch of retarded rednecks driving around in circles turning left.

There isn't much to prepare for. It's still go out and win.

Fair point. But they usually take the easy way out rather than thinking it through.
