Lap 108: CAUTION #10: Tim Kunkel around down the backstraight. J.R. Franklin is the leader at the caution.

And to the relief of the field. This restart will be inside of 10 laps to go. No more dealing with Connor Mire except for a few cars still behind the #29.

Kunkel gets the boot from Adam Douglas off of turn number 2.

    richmond_caution_10_1.png

Kunkel loops the car a couple times off to the inside.

    richmond_caution_10_2.png

And Kunkel just barely gets the car pointed in the right direction without stuffing it into the inside wall.

Lap 109: Problems continue for Chase drivers! Heartbreak once again for Spencer Hunter as he brings his car to pit road from 2nd. Surely it has to be for a flat tire. These guys have had more than enough cautions to make it on fuel.

Lap 111: Give a call to Chaser Brendan Peavy in 13th. That #17 team has been all over the scoring pylon this evening and even off the lead lap. After an extremely slow pit stop and additional issues as the stop completed, Brendan Peavy was trapped a lap down after they ran up front most of the opening couple of runs. Peavy fought hard to get his lap back, and now he finds himself back up inside the top 15 with a shot at a top 10.

Lap 112: 1 to go signal given. J.R. Franklin will lead Trey Coleman and others back to the restart. Coleman is the series' defending champion, and he currently leads the owners points by 31 points over Alikz Ahlbrand. That lead will most certainly extend tonight, and it could extend even further with a win tonight.

Lap 113: RESTART: Top 3 all take off together as they head back for turn 1. Just 7 laps left to determine the winner here at Richmond.

Lap 114: Nick Flaitz is pressuring Trey Coleman for 2nd. This is letting J.R. Franklin slowly drift off with the lead.

Lap 115: Coleman fights him hard, but Flaitz will take the 2nd spot. Flaitz has 5 laps to catch and pass J.R. Franklin for the lead. He has to make up a deficit of three quarters of a second to get there.

Lap 116: Coleman now gets stuck on the outside. Lounsberry to 3rd, Ryan Wayne to 4th. Sean English is next in line to take 5th. Ryan Cole, Daniel Asher, and David Calhoun are also lined up behind English.

Lap 117: Ryan Wayne with an issue! He gives up 4th place to come down pit road with a problem!

That stacks up the field behind them and look who has cracked the top 10 once again! With no hood and a beaten up front end, Connor Root has fought his way back to the top 10. Brendan Peavy is not too far behind him.

Lap 118: The two Turn 4 Motorsports cars of Nick Flaitz and Scott Lounsberry have absolutely nothing for J.R. Franklin. The #51 has opened his lead up to nearly one second.

Lap 119: WHITE FLAG: CAUTION #11: Big mess down the backstraight after Joshua Michaels gets punted off of turn 2! J.R. Franklin had already taken the white flag. This one is over.

Lap 120: CHECKERED FLAG: In very fitting fashion, J.R. Franklin will pick up his first career victory under caution here at Richmond International Raceway!

The last wreck of the night is probably by far the biggest one.

Brendan Peavy kicks it off by sending Joshua Michaels around off of turn 2.

    richmond_caution_11_1.png

As Peavy turns to come around the spinning #16, he pulls up across the nose of Jackson Braun. As those two hit the outside wall, Daniel Asher has to save his car from coming around on him.

    richmond_caution_11_2.png

The carnage continues as Noah Joyce gets knocked into Bobby Farrell and gets turned across the track.

    richmond_caution_11_3.png

As Joyce gets his car straightened out. Cars start stacking up and pinballing off of one another.

    richmond_caution_11_4.png

Ryan Wayne can't get his car slowed down quick enough. He smashes into the back of Travis Baker while Joshua Michaels gets hit by Cole DesRosiers and Josh Walton.

And the carnage still continues farther up the track. Noah Joyce and Joseph Onesto can't get separated and Onesto turns Joyce into the inside wall.

    richmond_caution_11_6.png

Tim Kunkel has nowhere to go but right into the side of Joyce's car. Both cars go around on the inside.

    richmond_caution_11_7.png

But we're still not done. Ryan Wayne loses it on the apron as he tried to come back up onto the race track.

    richmond_caution_11_8.png

    And hello, Brendan Gorman.

    richmond_caution_11_9.png

Finally, Joshua Michaels loses it just like Ryan Wayne did. No one else was collected.

J.R. Franklin and BCA Motorsports made news headlines this week around the series with a new sponsorship agreement for a couple of races at the end of this season. J.R. Franklin celebrates that piece of news by pulling into victory lane the very next race after the announcement was made. This is J.R. Franklin's first career win, and it is also BCA Motorsports' first win as a team.

Outside of the 11 cautions that plagued this 120-lap event, the biggest news story has to be the struggles of the 2016 Chase contenders. 8 of the 12 Chase contenders finished 20th or worse tonight. To make matters worse, out of the final 5 finishing positions tonight, 4 of them are Chase contenders.

A couple of Chasers were able to bounce back from their mid-race woes and still bring home solid finishes. Connor Root bounced back with no hood on the car to finish 6th. Brendan Peavy came back from a lap down to finish 10th.

Jackson Braun and Joe Towianski probably had the quietest nights out of all the Chasers. They came home 11th and 12th.

Ben Althen leads the best of the rest of the Chasers in 22nd, Alex Seufert overcame several accidents to finish 25th, Spencer Hunter can only manage 26th after pitting from 2nd during a restart with a shot at the win. Brendan Gorman comes home 31st after his night unraveled on him right after getting back on the lead lap. Connor Mire caused more than enough trouble tonight and finishes 37th, 3 laps down. Then Alikz Ahlbrand, Jacob Craigo, and Greg Woodard all ran into problems of their own throughout the night. They will come home 38th, 39th, and 41st, respectively.

Race #2 of the Round of 12 will be next weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
