A fuel mileage frenzy at Indianapolis set the stage for the first ever SRD National Series Chase for the Championship elimination race. And of all the tracks we could possibly run an elimination race, what could possibly be more intense than the half mile of Bristol Motor Speedway? This weekend the Chase field will be cut from 12 competitors to 8. Remember that a win by any of the 12 Chasers this weekend will clinch a spot in the next round of the Chase, regardless of points position.

This is also a throwback race for the SRD National Series this weekend. Several teams elected to run throwback paint schemes on their cars.

Engines have fired and cars are rolling here at Bristol. 150 laps will make up the distance tonight.

For 4 of the 12 Chasers, their journey for a championship will end tonight. A win by any of those 12 drivers will automatically punch their Chase ticket to the Round of 8.

Pace car is off. We're ready for racing here at Bristol.

David Calhoun gets a bump from Bob Laryson off of turn 2.

    bristol_caution_1_1.jpg

Calhoun gets turned down into Nick Flaitz and Bobby Farrell. Flaitz is able to save his car while Calhoun and Farrell head back for the outside wall.

    bristol_caution_1_2.jpg

As the #4 and the #37 collect in the outside wall, Bob Laryson gets a piece of it.

    bristol_caution_1_3.jpg

J.R. Franklin is also collected as his escape route to the outside is blocked by Laryson and Farrell.

    bristol_caution_1_4.jpg

The same can also be said for John Hooper Sr.

Lap 12: 1 to go signal given. Dakota Caudill is your leader. This will be one of those rare restarts where we won't have lapped cars to the inside line. Expect that to change rather quickly as the race goes on.

Lap 18: Car in the wall in turn 3, it's Travis Baker! Alikz Ahlbrand gave Baker a shot in the left rear as they went off into turn 3. Baker chases his car all the way up to the wall as Ahlbrand and several others go by.

Lap 19: Alikz Ahlbrand doesn't get away from this without issue, however. Joseph Onesto jumps to his inside and takes over 4th spot. Looks like Ahlbrand also had to chase his car up the hill after contact with the #61, and it opened the door for Onesto.

Baker has fallen to 11th and is still backing up on the outside.

Lap 25: Ben Althen has been looking to recover from his slow restart back on lap 13. He has pulled away from Joseph Onesto and has closed in on Jacob Craigo for 2nd. Craigo has fallen a few tenths behind leader Dakota Caudill.
