Engines have fired and cars are rolling for the Round of 8 Elimination Race at Watkins Glen. We'll split the Chase field in half, and those advancing will compete in a winner-take-all race next weekend at Homestead-Miami.

Adam Douglas and D.J. Harris will bring us to the green flag for the first of 33 laps.

GREEN FLAG: The charge begins to turn number 1 for the first time, and it looks like D.J. Harris has the early advantage from the outside pole.

Lap 3: Turn 1 has claimed it's first victim, and it's the #77 of Mike Ehresman.

    glen_spin_1.jpg

Ehresman goes around after contact with the left rear quarter panel of Alikz Ahlbrand off into turn 1. This probably won't be the last incident we have in turn 1.

J.R. Franklin carries a little too much speed in the carousel and has to jump on the brakes. Devin Mahoney cannot react fast enough, and runs into the back of the #51.

    glen_caution_1_1.jpg

The contact sends Franklin around and sends him backing out toward the outside of the carousel.

    glen_caution_1_2.jpg

Mahoney tries to get around the sliding #51, but can't get it done. Mahoney ends up in the tire barrier and prevents Franklin's car from also burying in the tire barrier.

Lap 5: Pit road opens with no takers. We should see the 1 to go signal on the backstraight.

Watkins Glen is the one race every season where we have flying starts and restarts. You still have to be careful about illegally passing before the start/finish line and picking up a stop/go penalty. This is especially true if you're one of the eight Chasers looking to make it to the Championship 4.

Lap 6: RESTART: LEAD CHANGE: Green flag is back in the air and problems for our leader! D.J. Harris pulled out of line down the backstraight and follows the pace car to pit road! This will turn the lead over to Noah Joyce.
