Lap 27: Adam Douglas now opens up some breathing room as they put a lap to Bob Laryson.
Lap 28: Looks like it's going to come down to Douglas, Flaitz, and Root for the win. Root will easily make it to the Championship 4 if he finishes where he does, but I'm sure he would like to make it to the Championship 4 with some momentum after a victory the previous weekend.
Crew chief- "No need to do anything stupid. 5 to go."
CR #1- "10-4"
Lap 29: Tim Kunkel around in turn 1 from 15th. He had some help from Tim Johnston.
Lap 30: Adam Douglas and Nick Flaitz share gains and losses on one another throughout the lap. The lead is three tenths of a second. It's another three tenths back to 3rd place Connor Root, then almost a second back to Joseph Onesto in 4th.
Lap 31: Adam Douglas is 2 laps away from his 2nd win in three weeks after winning at Indianapolis. Nick Flaitz in 2nd is looking for his 2nd win of the season after winning the season opener at Daytona. Connor Root in 3rd is looking for his first career win, and a win that would automatically punch his ticket to the Championship 4 next weekend at Homestead.
Lap 32: WHITE FLAG: Nick Flaitz had to worry about losing 2nd to his teammate, Connor Root. This will give Adam Douglas a half second advantage as he heads to turn 1 for the final time.
Lap 33: CHECKERED FLAG: While Nick Flaitz and Connor Root battle for 2nd through the carousel, Adam Douglas comes back from an early mistake in turn 1 to win for the second time in three weeks! Adam Douglas wins at Watkins Glen!
We did it boys! Wooooo! Ya'll are the s***! That's two on the season, what a comeback. What a day. What a season. We're going to go far next year!
A majority of the Chasers got out of Watkins Glen with solid finishes, but only 4 drivers can make it to Homestead still with a shot at the championship. Here's a look at where the Chasers finished.
1 Connor Root - 3rd
57 Jackson Braun - 9th
02 Joe Towianski - 10th
41 Greg Woodard - 11th
17 Brendan Peavy - 17th
68 Kyle Missimer - 20th
80 Alex Seufert - 28th
29 Connor Mire - 36th, -2 laps
And the projected Chase standings...
01. 1 Connor Root +37
02. 57 Jackson Braun +16
03. 41 Greg Woodard +10
04. 17 Brendan Peavy +9
05. 02 Joe Towianski -9
06. 29 Connor Mire -23
07. 68 Kyle Missimer/Spencer Hunter -24
07. 80 Alex Seufert -28
Joyce when asked about the possibility of penalties:
"I'm dead last in owners and drivers points, so what's it matter? I've got nothing to lose."
CR #1- "Congrats to Nick on the 2nd place finish. Can't believe that we're heading into Homestead with the momentum. Good luck to Woodard, Braun, and Peavy - we'll see you in Miami."
Everything has been run through Score4. Here is your official Chase Grid after Watkins Glen.
Welcome to the first ever Championship 4: Connor Root, Jackson Braun, Greg Woodard, and Brendan Peavy.
The highest of these four drivers, regardless of bonus points for laps led, most laps led, etc., will be crowned your 2016 SRD National Series Champion at Homestead-Miami this coming weekend.
"I'd like to take this moment to say I wish I stuffed Seufert in the tire barriers. Moron."
@Chevellion I'm officially dubing you as "The Chevinator"
Great work this season by Peavy and Woodard for FPR. I'm very pleased with their performances and hopefully they can pull through in Miami and bring us a championship.
"Really wished our drivers were up there competing for the championship, but as long as Mire is done, I'm happy. We managed to bring home a good top 10 (I think)"
Brendan Gorman: Awesome for Jackson to get in the final four. We're gonna everything we can to make sure he gets the best equipment at VLE to lock down this title.
"As a team owner, I have to admit I'm a bit conflicted with Connor not advancing to the final round of the Chase next week and Adam Douglas showing everyone DK Motorsports's dominance with a 2nd win in 3 weeks is just impressive! This first season as a team owner/driver has been great. While the driver has struggled at times, being the owner has been the most fun I've had in this series in a while! I can't thank everyone that supports my team and everyone back at the shop to bring us these fast hot rods each and every week. I'm hoping I can end the season strong with a win for this #18 DK Motorsports team since Connor and Adam both have 2 wins on the year. Not bad in my team's first season to have 4 wins on the year! Next year is only going to get better!!"
Usually Im pissed about being turned around near the end but not today. Just Ain't Care.
