A great start for a majority of the Round of 8 contenders at Watkins Glen slowly dwindled away as contender after contender suddenly ran into issues. Four of those Round of 8 contenders rose to the occasion and will now run for the 2016 SRD National Series Championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway. This is it. One race. Highest finishing of the now four championship contenders will take home the title when the checkered flag waves tomorrow afternoon.

And a look at your Championship 4 Contenders...

    1_root.png
    #1 Seed - #1 Connor Root
    2016 - Starts: 15, Wins: 0, Top 5s: 4, Top 10s: 8, Poles: 0, Average Start: 18th, Average Finish: 14th
    2016 Miscellaneous Stats - Laps Completed: 926 (82.1%), Laps Led: 55 (4.9%)

#1 comes into the final race, #1. Connor Root has been on fire this entire season, despite not winning a race in 2016. Root's 4 top 5s and 8 top 10s both lead the series. After fighting to a 19th place while missing the season opener at Daytona in 2015, Connor Root comes into Homestead-Miami almost certainly as the favorite after his amazing performances in the previous 2 rounds of the 2016 Chase.

    57_braun.png
    #2 Seed - #57 Jackson Braun
    2016 - Starts: 15, Wins: 1, Top 5s: 3, Top 10s: 4, Poles: 0, Average Start: 27th, Average Finish: 19th
    2016 Miscellaneous Stats - Laps Completed: 1046 (92.7%), Laps Led: 80 (7.1%)

Jackson Braun returns to the championship battle in 2016 after not running for series points in 2015, and it's gone just about as well as he wanted to. A win at Martinsville punched Braun's ticket into the Chase earlier in the season, and he's managed to find his way into the Championship Race.

    41_woodard.png
    #3 Seed - #41 Greg Woodard
    2016 - Starts: 15, Wins: 1, Top 5s: 1, Top 10s: 2, Poles: 0, Average Start: 29th, Average Finish: 18th
    2016 Miscellaneous Stats - Laps Completed: 933 (82.7%), Laps Led: 44 (3.9%)

Greg Woodard comes into the Championship Race with the worst stat lines out of the other contenders. With a win at Lime Rock Park and one other finish inside the top 10 with a 7th at Indianapolis, Woodard is certainly the underdog in the Championship 4. But Woodard does have a couple of things going for him coming into this weekend. A solid 11th place finish at Watkins Glen got him to the Championship 4, as well as past experience in a championship race could be what Woodard needs to pick up the championship for Ford Performance Racing. In 2014, Greg Woodard finished 3rd in the championship battle at Homestead, finishing just 10 points behind the champion.

    17_peavy.png
    #4 Seed - #17 Brendan Peavy
    2016 - Starts: 15, Wins: 0, Top 5s: 3, Top 10s: 6, Poles: 0, Average Start: 21st, Average Finish: 16th
    2016 Miscellaneous Stats - Laps Completed: 1095 (97.1%), Laps Led: 30 (2.7%)

Brendan Peavy is another driver that has seen a Championship Race before, and it wasn't too long ago either. Peavy is back for redemption after losing the 2015 championship battle by only 1 point to Trey Coleman. Peavy doesn't have a win this season, but his 1095 laps completed this season places him 3rd in the field behind Sean English and J.R. Franklin. Peavy comes into the race as the #4 Seed, but with a level playing field and just 1 race to decide it could be all Brendan Peavy needs to avenge his 2015 championship loss.

There are other championship battles that will also be settled tomorrow afternoon. Let's take a closer look at those battles.

    OWNERS CHAMPIONSHIP
    1. #12 Davis Motorsports (Trey Coleman) - 442 points
    2. #1 Turn 4 Motorsports (Connor Root) -4
    3. #17 Ford Performance Racing (Brendan Peavy) -30

The top 2 drivers in the 2015 championship battle meet again in the owners points with Trey Coleman and Brendan Peavy while Connor Root is the new addition. Brendan Peavy has quite a deficit to make up, but Trey Coleman can win a championship in back-to-back seasons as long as he keeps Connor Root in his rear view mirror.

    ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
    1. #29 Connor Mire - 109 points
    2. #51 J.R. Franklin -8

With the max points gained in a race being just 8 points, Connor Mire and J.R. Franklin come into the final race as the only two drivers still eligible to win Rookie of the Year in 2016. Franklin's only hope for the Rookie of the Year title is for Mire to finish the worst of the rookies while Franklin finishes the best of the rookies.

    TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP
    1. Turn 4 Motorsports - 118 points
    2. DK Motorsports -15
    3. Victory Lane Enterprises -27

After undergoing an ownership change during the 2015 season, Nick Flaitz looks to pick up the Team Championship from Dakota Caudill's DK Motorsports and Brendan Gorman's Victory Lane Enterprises. Both Turn 4 Motorsports and Victory Lane Enterprises have a driver competing in the Championship 4 with Connor Root and Jackson Braun, respectively.

    MANUFACTURES CHAMPIONSHIP
    1. Ford Mustang - 97 points
    2. Toyota Camry -3
    3. Chevrolet Camaro -3

The Manufactures Championship is probably the closest it's ever been going into the final race of the season. 2015 champion, Ford Mustang, comes into the final race just 3 points ahead of both Toyota Camry and Chevrolet Camaro. If Ford is the highest or second-highest finishing manufacture, they will do no worse than tie for the championship. If the highest Ford driver finishes behind the highest-finishing Toyota and Chevrolet driver, the championship will come down to the highest finishing Toyota or Chevrolet driver.

#1 Root- "It's been a ride. Thanks to Turn 4 Motorsports for the great cars they've put under me this season, really couldn't have gotten here without them. Aaron's, Union Pacific, Old Milwaukee, and Chevy have all been instrumental to this deep playoff run. Here's to hoping that #1 will be #1."

Looking forward to a great race! We're going to do our best to give Connor all he needs to go out and win the race, he has been strong all season and I have no doubt he can go out there and get it. Scott and I are going to do all that we can to assist him on the track

Race has been moved to Thursday evening. I've had something come up for later this evening and I'll be booked up Wednesday evening.

Everything is ready to go, I just have to have the time to run it.
