Welcome to Brooklyn, Michigan for third race of the 2014 SRD Indycar season, the Pure Michigan 250 at Michigan International Speedway. Michigan is arguable the fastest track on the schedule, so get ready for high speed, high stakes racing at this huge 2 mile d-shaped oval.

The Pure Michigan 250 is the second oval race of the season, and will be a longer race compared to last weekend at New Hampshire, clocking in at 125 laps, 250 miles. The speeds will be high, hovering around 230 mph around the track, and the draft will be oh so important this weekend. Because of that, and prepare for a gift from above road course specialists, this weekend is deemed the "wildcard" of the season. Don't be surprised if some of the road course guys get up there towards the front, but expect an oval racer to reign supreme. In 2012, Daniel Asher lead a race high 26 laps and held off former driver Tyler Clabaugh to win in what would be the first of two wins in a championship season.

Last weekend, Jeremy Zumwalt dominated at New Hampshire, leading 95 laps after starting on the pole. It was Zumwalt's second career win, and he took the points lead over teammate Curtis James. Both Zumwalt and James have opened the seasons with a top 5 and a top 10, with teammate Kyle Missimer showing speed, but not having the luck they need. Ford Performance Racing have shown the the field that if anyone is gonna win this championship, they'll have to get through Zumwalt, James, and Missimer. Who will rise up to the challenge?

Race Info:
-Pure Michigan 250
-Michigan International Speedway
-2 mile oval
-125 laps/250 miles

Weekend Schedule:
Friday: Opening Practice - 90 minutes Practice 2 - 60 minutes
Saturday: Practice 3 - 60 minutes, Qualifying
Sunday: Race Day

We will be using the Firestone Firehawk tires this week.

The Big Three:
1. Jeremy Zumwalt takes the points lead off dominant win at New Hampshire.
2. Kyle Slaughter fractures arm at New Hampshire; will race this week.
3. Road Course specialists have high expectations at Michigan as "wildcard" factor takes effect.

"I'm confident we can defend our title here, but with the new car, the draft is more important than ever now. There's gonna be 3, maybe even 4 wide racing, it's gonna be like NASCAR's version of Talladega. It's gonna be crazy, but I think it'll be fun."

@CLlamas48 - "Here we go again with another oval that is completely different from the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. I hope we can salvage a better finish this time so we don't lose more points in the standings before the road course streak.. Time to see what tomorrow brings this time around.."

Curtis J™ - "While I would love to get a win here and show the field how its done, I am thinking big picture. Some will say its too early for me and this Adidas team to be thinking that way, but in the end hopefully its us walking away with the trophy going "I told you so". High speeds, high banking, high fun. Its going to be great!"

Reporter- "We are here in studio with Joe Towianski. So Joe how confident are you going into this weekend?"

Joe- "After last week's race I felt a little disappointed because we do have oval speed. I feel like we can get one here."

Reporter- "Is there any added pressure being this is your home track?"

Joe-"For sure, we have the family out for this event as well as some sponsor executives. Also, being GM is about an hour and a half away, that's big for us."

Reporter-"Alright that is Joe Towianski, driver of the #5 Napa/Skullcandy Chevy Dallara. Good luck this weekend. Next, more on today's trades in MLB."

I'm looking for another good race this week at another one of my favorite tracks. Michigan is so wide and so fast. I love it. We hope to have a good run in the Delo Lotus. The guys at the shop have been working hard on this car. It's the first time out for this particular car, so we're ready to see how fast it goes.

Zoom - "Really looking forward to this weekend. I think it's going to be a lot harder for a few guys to really dominate the weekend. I expect to see some unfamiliar faces towards the front but I think there is still a good shot we will be up there especially after the boost from last weeks race."

Craigo - "After the past couple of weeks we've had, my team and I are looking at one word: Domination! Going up the ranks, I've won here twice, and now that I'm in the Indycar series, I hope that just means that I have an advantage going into this race."

Counting my results so far, I'm the best driver at Streetside, and again, we'll be applying the tactic that we used at Daytona and New Hampshire: hold up the longest that we can, and try to bring home the maximum possible points that we're able to.

Sandri: "It's another survival weekend for us until we get back on road courses. There's the potential for a good finish, but I'm not going to count on it. I'm more worried about what riff I'm going to learn on my ESP Guitar than about the race this weekend. We'll worry about it come race day since the draft will equalize things."

#74 Devin Mahoney "Excited to be at Michigan. Pretty easy track to run, thankfully. Had surgery on the thumb this morning and got the custom fitted steering wheel in place so we should be good to go. Still figuring out these IndyCars but Opp-Hooper has been putting out some really fast Lotus powered machines. Gotta thank Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine and John Deere for coming on board with us this season."

JordanDemis: Another oval. How exciting. The main goal for this weekend is to just stay in contention, and I'll be sappy

Bobby Farrrell - "After not being able to get around the flat track of New Hampshire I'm not looking forward to the high speeds of Michigan. I know we have the possible wild card factor for the road course guys. I just don't see us having the speed in the car to handle this track. Of course I have been known to be wrong before."

Opening Practice for the Pure Michigan 250 was held at 2 pm EST, and it was a breezy 71 degrees. We pointed out the "wild card" factor this weekend at this track, and the draft played a factor in practice speeds as road course specialists and balanced drivers took the top three spots.

Jordan Demis paced the speed charts with a 31.876, while Keith Batson, Darren Ingram, Sean English, and Ryan Cole rounded out the top 5. While road course drivers may run well in practice, expect the oval guys to start at the front come race time after single car qualifying. Jerry Towns will have to replace an engine after losing one in practice, it is unknown if SRD Officials will make him start at the rear for it.

@DarrenIngram- Wow, P3 in practice 1. This car has got some wicked speed in the draft. We'll probably start down the order, but expect us to be up front in the race.

@CLlamas48 - "The draft from these cars are the great equalizer around this Michigan International Speedway.. Our Car felt pretty good which is a surprise since we don't do good at these oval tracks.. I think qualifying will be a challenge since it's single car but we will see in the next practice today.."
