It's that time of the season! The International portion of the schedule, 7 races on tracks located all across the world, kicks off this week! We usually make a two week stop at Australia to kick off the International tour, but not anymore, as Australia isn't a planned stop this season. Australia out...Germany IN! Welcome to Hockenheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany for the first race outside of the US in 2014, the German Grand Prix of Hockenheim located at the Hockenheimring!

The German Grand Prix of Hockenheim is the eighth race of the season, first race on the 2014 International tour, and the third road course race of the season. Hockenheim is a brand new track to the Indycar schedule, so how about a littler history on the track? The Hockenheimring was opened in 1932, featuring a long, 16 turn, 4.24 mile track that featured four high speed straightaways. The track ran through forests on the old design, making it a pretty unique track. However, after the 2001 F1 event, F1 threatened to leave the track if they did not shorten the track...which lead to wide sweeping changes, including tearing up the forest portion of the track and replanting trees there. The track was shortened from 4.24 miles to 2.84 miles, and they added an extra turn to make 17 turns on the circuit. Below you can see the new circuit compared to the old circuit, with the new being the black outline. It should be a great weekend of racing for the inaugural German Grand Prix of Hockenheim, who will mark their name down in history and take the checkered flag? While not at the same track, in race eight of the 2012 season at Philip Island, Kyle Missimer lead a grand total of one lap...2 turns if you want to be exact...and passed Chris Davis with an excellent move to the outside to win. But can Missimer's success translate to Hockenheim?

Last week at Long Bea...er...Watkins Glen, it was rookie Bobby Farrell who took the veterans to school, winning the opening two road course races. What is that saying..."You can't hope to stop him, you can only hope to contain him." Yeah, lets go with that, cause that's what it's looking like right now. Farrell is going for 3/3 this weekend, but he'll have a lot of competition out there. You can't count out Mike Oppenheimer, Roger Sandri, or Kyle Missimer, three of the guys who seem to be right there every road course race. Who will take home the trophy? One of the vets? Will Farrell go 3/3? Or will Zack Webster or Billy Nixon, two of the fastest cars last week, step up again this week? Or perhaps will Cody Llamas notch win #1 after a strong run at The Glen? Tune in on Monday to find out!

Bobby Farrell - "I am really excited to go over to Germany for our next road course race. After winning the first 2 road course events I am pretty confident that we can keep this streak going. Also going to spend as much time as I can with the fans this weekend. Looking to gain some overseas fans since this is the first race out of 7 outside the U.S."

First time I've been in Germany. A bad road course racer on a tough road course. This could not end well.

Ah, Germany. A place of history both good and bad, but still a great country to be in. I will admit, this is the first time i've been outside of the US.

I guess it should be noted that the track I got is apparently the 4+ mile one and not the new circuit. I remember AI testing this and thinking it was the new one, and the layout in the game is the new track...but it's the old track. But hey, that's fine too.

Putting some final tweaks on it and then we'll get going with practice. But the new track really changes how this race will be ran...4 long straightaways, and these guys are fanning out on every one of them trying to pass from what I'm seeing.

(I'm just irritated I worked on the track history for the new configuration only to see that...well...the game lied to me lol.)

Darren Ingram - "Happy with the car, we led the session until the very end when ole Webby snuck up and stole the top spot, but we'll go out and get em in qualifying. I just wanna translate the speed we've had in practice, even on some of the ovals, into the race."

"27th is about where I expected to be. We're putting all our effort into the 33 and 95 cars this week. Zack shared some setup notes with Jackson and I after practice and we're all packing similar setups now, so we'll see how it goes tomorrow."
