Two-time NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Jack Ingram remains in intensive care after suffering serious injuries in two-car accident on Sunday.
Ingram had two other occupants in his car at the time of the traffic accident, which took place in Asheville, North Carolina.

According to information shared by his family on CaringBridge.com, the 80-year-old suffered a collapsed lung, five broken ribs and a puncture wound on his left side. It was also later discovered that he also suffered a spleen injury.

Ingram won two Xfinity Series titles in 1982 and 1985 and 31 races throughout his career in NASCAR’s secondary division.

"We are currently by his side, managing his care with his clinicians and will decide next steps," said his family through a statement. "We remain hopeful and positive, and appreciate all thoughts and prayers. We will provide updates as information becomes available."

Known by his fans as the ‘Ironman’ Ingram was very popular during his time in NASCAR and was elected into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2014.

According to published reports on NASCAR.com, the accident occurred close to the now closed Asheville Motor Speedway where Ingram got his start.

Ingram's passengers Ben Barnes and Robert Reeves also suffered injuries in the accident.
